Behind the valuation: How Sell My Antiques appraises your items.

I have over 40 years’ experience in the antiques trade, having shops in central Oxford and in the local market towns, I was a consultant for the BBC and have won national awards.
After an initial contact from a prospective client, I ask for images to be sent via email, I can value 80% of items from images. For items that I cannot value I have specialists retained to provide appraisals, these specialists really do offer me an A -Z of the antiques industry from antiquarian books to zoomorphic Saxon strap ends.
I then send the client the valuations including offers for any pieces that I may be interested in, these offers are dependent on later inspection for condition etc. For items that I am not interested in I can advise on their sale, referring the client to dealers who are experts in the relevant field.
If images cannot be emailed I am more than happy to visit a clients home to value items, as I mention on my website if a client is concerned on having a stranger in their house I advise a family member or friend being present, I have referees who can be contacted to prove that I am Bona fide.
My service is completely free of charge, no commission charges #, no call out fees and same day payment in either cash or BACS.
I do not buy gold or silver; a high street goldsmith or jeweler can offer a much better valuation than most general dealers and please approach them before using the many “Gold valuations by post” services.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are looking to sell a piece, a complete collection or if you are wondering what Great Uncle John’s medals are worth.
# If you have high value items I can arrange for their sale on a commission basis either in the UK or internationally.
